Named after his favourite fly fishing river, Hurunui Jack acquired legendary status on the West Coast after he ripped the fences out of land and gave them away so it would feel more open and free.
Or was it when he turned one lane of his salmon farm into a fresh water swimming pool?
Or maybe it was the time he flew the South Island’s top chef and his team over to the West Coast to cook up the venison, groper, whitebait and green lipped mussels he’d hunted and gathered for his mates?
The actual moment is lost in the mists that float over the pristine green valleys that cloak the sides of the West Coast’s Southern Alps. That’s where Hurunui Jack spends time hunting and fishing or just admiring the view and appreciating his freedom.
Because above all else, Hurunui Jack loves his freedom.
