All Time Great HJ's

My all time great Hurunui Jack’s are people who have embodied the HJ life – living the life they want – being true to themselves.  Isn’t is encouraging that even in more strait-laced or conformist times than ours, some people have always gone after their freedom and followed their own path?

1. Jack London

A self-taught man who left university after 6 months because it was “not alive enough” and a “passionless pursuit of passionless intelligence”. He was in his time, a laborer, factory worker, oyster pirate on the San Francisco Bay, member of the California Fish Patrol, sailor, railroad hobo, and gold prospector in the Klondike Gold Rush as well as a great writer.

He is my all time great Hurunui Jack for this quote alone,

‘I would rather be ashes than dust! I would rather that my spark should burn out in a brilliant blaze than it should be stifled by dry rot.
