Those of us who fly fish all year round, indeed anyone who enjoys the outdoors all year round, knows it’s important to layer up with some form of thermal undergarments.
The common garments until recently were made from petro chemicals, like poly propylene – cheap and nasty, made even worse with those god awful stripes, they look as bad as they perform (a bit like the Paris Hiltons or the Ladas of the world!), stand too close to the camp fire and you can go up in flames, not to mention the stink after a few days of continuous wear – everyone leaves you alone, in the hut they’d rather freeze outside than gag inside!
Well, over the last few years, Hurunui Jack’s been using superfine merino, 19 micron yarn knitted and made into a 140 gsm sleeveless top, used as a base layer – it is fantastic, layer over the top a long sleeve merino top and a jumper over that, you’ll never be cold again.
The tights are fantastic as well and all the women think they are very sensual, well they would when we only want to go fishing. Complete the outfit with our merino socks and a merino skullcap or balaclava – awesome.
This whole range looks fantastic and you’ve guessed it – no stink even after a week on the mountains. Yes, they look good enough to wear into the café/bar on the way home to sink a few brown ones, tell a few lies, and the girlfriend will still think they’re sensual when she rips them off on your return! That don’t happen with poly pro bro, mind you, it’s walking home on it’s own anyway!

Can guys look good in tights?! Yes! These merino tights are so sensual, not only to wear, but the enhanced leg definition sends the ladies into rapture. They are fantastic as a layer garment inside waders or wet wading with shorts over the top to guard against cold or mossies, and are fantastic on the bike or running those mountain trails.
