Sage fly fishing rods are designed and built by fly fishing champions who understand what they're doing and produce the goods every time. They also build them with a lifetime guarantee so you know they'll last.
Yep, the boys at Sage know what they're doing – and they really mean it when they say that "every Sage rod, reel and line is specifically designed to help you make the most of your precious time on the water".
I have used Sage rods for many years. I've tried others but keep coming back to Sage because they have the rods that work for the conditions I fish in – whether that's a big deep sea day saltwater fly fishing, a blustery Norwest day in Canterbury where you want a rod that can hold its own against the elements or a quiet river where I'm stalking selective trout who'll only bite for the lightest leaders and tiniest flies.
Sage have built rods especially for me which incorporate a beautiful Pounamu inlay. Pounamu or New Zealand jade is a beautiful stone found primarily on the West coast of New Zealand and revered by local Maori for over a thousand years as a Taonga or treasure. With that kind of service, how could I ever go anywhere else?
The Sage promise is that we'll 'cast better, fish more effectively and have more fun'. And they deliver much more than that. There's immense pleasure and satisfaction just from holding the rods – the weight, balance and of course the memories of perfect and near perfect days spent fishing with friends in unspoilt, remote, wild places.
There is a Sage fishing rod for every situation. Here are a few of my favourites:
With the new Z-Axis Series Fast Action Rods Sage has put a whole new level of power in big game fly fishing equipment and injected huge excitement to the fly fishing community world wide. Sage's 8100 Z-Axis fishing rod and 3400D reel provide extra length for mends and power for stopping the great freshwater brutes. Even the toughest freshwater fish have finally met their match, the 8100-4 Z-Axis. ‘It can power line out, turn big mends, and whip some serious big fish tail. Works well as a single hand spey! Alaska and B.C. here we come’.
The RPLXi series from Sage is designed for dealing with saltwater gamesfish that demand respect. The RPLXi rods are for flyfishers with experience casting large, wind-resistant flies and heavy lines into the wind for gamefish like tuna or sharks. The RPLXi has the lifting power you need to get these fish up fast enough so that you can safely release them. It can withstand enormous vertical pressure.
If you want to play with the big dogs in the tall grass the RPLXi is the hot rod you want.
When fishing for highly selective fish such as trout with light leaders and tiny flies, the ultra-light SPL series is your best choice. The award-winning SPLCAs are part of an integrated fly fishing system that includes an SPL rod, reel and special Quiet Taper fly line that works beaut together for the best lightline performance you’ll ever find. Classic smooth action and great performance are what the SP and SPL rods are all about.
